Pastor’s Testimony

I am pastor Roger Sung whose many sins were forgiven by God’s great mercy and the redemption of Christ Jesus and became God’s son and a servant of Jesus by the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Holy Spirit’s comfort, peace, and hope be with your souls.

I was a debauchee, a violent man, a brute, and a dead man.

I was terrified when I received a death sentence from my doctor for my sickness from sin, alcohol, and debauchery. While wandering everywhere, searching for a way to live, I met a spiritual monk Jigong at a Sokri Mountain cave called Shin (쉰동굴) in Korea. Heeding his counsel, he told me, “Mr. Sung, believe in Jesus, read the Bible; if you believe, you will live and go across the great ocean,” I came to America with hope.

But my American life with a fatal disease, death, sin, and hardship made me even more miserable with anxiety and shame. On the night I was committing suicide out of hopelessness, suddenly, I heard the voice of God saying, “일어나라”(Get Up) three times, then I got up and started to devote myself to church life with new hope.

After learning that I was such a wicked sinner toward God and men through the scriptures in the Bible, I sincerely repented and received the forgiveness of my sins through baptism in the name of Jesus Christ.

I also received the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of life freed me from sin and death and gave life to my dying body. After giving me new life, the Holy Spirit became my eternal counselor (보혜사) in Christ Jesus.

“The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 1:14) Amen. Hallelujah!

Later, realizing that the Holy Spirit made me an example to give hope to those who are born again as God’s sons and receive eternal life by faith in Jesus, I became a pastor.
